Designing an Analogue Low Pass Filter System for a Quantum Ion Trap.

Designing and sourcing parts

For this initial filter system I am going to use stripboard to make the circuit board. This is a piece of plastic board with strips of copper across one surface. Components are mounted in pre-drilled holes in the copper strips and tracks can be cut to create the required circuit.

A diagram of the stripboard layout can be seen here:

(Stripboard layout: capacitors in dark green, resistors in brown. X signifies where a track should be broken)

All the capacitors are joined to a common strip on the board which is then the ground for the filter system. It is important to ground the filters well otherwise they won't be as effective.
