Avocados have become a symbol of health, wellness and being engaged in global culture. Despite being eaten by Mexicans for thousands of years, its popularity has been increasing since the 1970s in the richest countries, namely the US. Globalisation making foods able to be imported and exported across borders all year round comes at a serious cost and in the avocados case, not to the consumer. An obsession with weight is nothing new to the wealthiest nations. Exploring the fickleness of the US’s food and diet trends of the last 50 years, it’ll become clear, has led to many Mexicans being raised out of poverty, into the depths of depravity.
