Maths Challenge

Creative Solutions Wanted

Welcome!

We are researchers from the University of Cambridge and the University of Sussex working together to find out more about the different ways in which people reason and represent their reasoning process.

  • We want to understand how people solve problems to make AI systems that think like people and can adapt to a diverse set or reasoning styles.
  • We organised this competition to collect a varied set of solutions to probability problems. We are especially interested in intuitive and creative solutions.
  • Example: 'What is the probability that the sum of two dice is more than 7?'

About this project

This Maths Challenge: Creative Solutions Wanted competition is part of the project 'How to (re)represent it?', which aims to build a system that takes into account a variety of reasoning styles, so that it can provide user-tailored tools and explanations. Our broader goal is to understand how people represent information, so we can inform the construction of more human-like systems.
