• Lecturer and Outreach Officer in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Sussex, working with schools and colleges to encourage students to study physics (see profile)

• Astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, delivering planetarium shows and instigated the Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition.
  
  
• XMM-Newton Space Telescope Calibration Scientist (EPIC-MOS cameras)
  
  
• PhD in X-ray astronomy, studying cataclysmic variable stars at the University of Leicester.
  
  
• Delivers expert analysis on TV, online (e.g. BBC News online) and other media (e.g. Science Focus magazine), including popular science articles and book contributions (e.g. 30-second Astronomy and the Oxford Dictionary of Astronomy).


• Co-founded the Brighton Luminarium science centre concept, and is a director of the Ensonglopedia theatre company


• As a semi-professional photographer, has developed and delivered education courses in astrophotography, and supplies unique image and video content to producers.


• A fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society & a member of the Institute of Physics, serving on the IOP South-Central Branch committee.
