A new random number seed is generated (at random by the computer's timer) whenever DDLab is started. If ``r`` is selected at the first prompt (#5) above, a specific random number seed can be set. The following prompt appears in a top right window,

Using the same random number seed results in the same sequence of random numbers being produced by the random number generator. This allows identical multiple runs using default random settings of network parameters such as wiring, neighbourhood mix, rules and initial state. Alternatively these setting can be loaded from previously saved files.
