Guidelines for trading audio tapes
This is how I make audio tapes for people, and how I expect them to be
made for me. If your expectations are different from these, please
let me know.
Sorry to be fussy, but I:
- use new, chrome (High bias, position II, etc) cassettes, usually
TDK CDing II's or Maxell SXII's.
- like my tapes with Dolby C & make tapes for others in Dolby B unless
requested otherwise.
- In general, I assume that if I make, say, 5 c90 tapes for you, then
you will make 5 c90 tapes for me (or some other combination of tapes
adding up to 450 minutes)
- do not like songs to be cut off in the middle by the end of the tape,
so if this happens, I like the entire song to be recorded elsewhere,
preferably the beginning of the next side.
- prefer original track ordering to be preserved as much as possible.
- like to have my tapes *full*, so if there is a lot of blank space at
the end of the tape, either ask me for a filler suggestion, or at
least surprise me with something that you think I don't have, but
might like. I will typically only do this for you if you request it.
- like to have track listings for all my tapes, and venue, date, and
personnel info if possible for live tapes.
- make tapes from the best source I have (CD over LP over tape).
- do not make or like high-speed dubs.
- send tapes airmail (small packet), with at most 10 tapes per packet to
avoid delays with customs.
For large deals, much postage cost can be avoided by not sending
cases. Let me know if you think this is a good idea.
