Galileo and his Experiments

In 1564 Galileo Galilei was born in a small town near Pisa, the son of two very proud parents. During his life, Galileo Galilei carried out many highly important experiments that have affected the way we live today. For example, Galileo discovered that the Earth goes around the sun. He stuck to his scientific beliefs for many years, but was threatened to be tortured by the Church. The Church was so angry because Galileo was trying to convince the people of the world that his beliefs were right, and that the ideas put forward in the Holy Bible could therefore not be right. A few years later Galileo was put under house arrest, but his books and notes continued to be very popular amongst the people. The books and notes written by Galileo were smuggled around Italy and into neighbouring countries although Galileo himself was still under arrest. They were smuggled out mainly by Galileo's close friends and family. Galileo died in 1642 at the age of 78 after being sentenced to life imprisonment.
