Workshop Format

The session will be a mixture of paper presentations and interactive activities and discussion, with much emphasis placed on the latter.

Paper presenters at the workshop will be given some learning scenarios via the web before the workshop and all talks will be asked to include some examples of how their system would respond in this context. e.g. long pauses after a mistake, someone repeatedly asking for help on questions they can answer, describing at which point in a scenario their system would intervene and with what, girls asking for help versus boys, collaborative use of a system versus individual use.

Depending on the exact mix of attending participants, it is anticipated that a practical ("Wizard of Oz") experiment in help-seeking/help delivery will be attempted e.g. observing, noting and discussing participants' attempts to operate a novel piece of technology (e.g. a mobile phone with an unusual interface).
